Why Chiropractic Care is Important During Exercise

By Thomas McKean

We all know that exercise is key to good health, and we all feel the mental and physical benefits from a great workout.

But sometimes recovery from an intense workout is slow, and even when you have stretched properly prior to and after working out, the pain can sometimes keep you from achieving your fitness goals for days.

Chiropractic care takes a holistic approach to health care, which means that chiropractors view the human body as a whole, and aim to treat both the mind and the body without prescription medication or invasive surgeries.

Chiropractors perform adjustments that stretch the joints in the human body and make the joints more fit for exercise.  The more flexible joints are, the better they perform.  When joints move and flex they release endorphins. Chiropractic adjustments are scientifically designed to maneuver joints in a manner that releases endorphins.  Endorphins are neurotransmitters, which are chemicals that bind to receptor cells, and then elicit an interactive bodily response with an electrical signal from within the central nervous system and to the peripheral nervous system. Endorphins evoke a bodily response that causes a euphoric rush of happiness to the brain and a natural painkiller to the body.  The feeling while going on an intense run that makes your body feel like it can just go forever, or runners high, is caused from endorphins!  The endorphins released during chiropractic care help manage pain without the use of narcotic or over-the-counter painkillers, which are often used to fight pain.

When an individual exercises their muscles pull on their joints causing them to get misaligned.  When bodily joints are misaligned, the body attempts to compensate, which causes further disruption within the body.  This disruption hinders how well bodily joints perform.  Chiropractic adjustments align the body evenly, and help the joints perform at their optimum level.

When added to your normal workout regimen, chiropractic care can deliver many benefits for the mind and body.  If you have already experienced chiropractic care, or are someone new to chiropractic care Fulk Chiropractic’s 11 doctors have a combined experience of over 175 years serving the Kansas City Metro area and see patients 7 days a week!
