Top 3 Sweat-Free Workouts

By: KELLY SHERIDAN

There is nothing like stepping into the shower after a great gym session or a long run, washing away the sweat and feeling the slight muscle soreness that always comes after a great workout. However, as great as this feeling is, sometimes breaking a sweat can be quite a time-consuming burden. This is especially true on a great hair day or an especially hectic weekday when there isn’t sufficient time for a quick post-workout shower. Contrary to popular opinion, though, it is possible to squeeze in a quality workout without becoming a smelly, sweaty mess.

This may seem false, but workouts that result in a drenched gym shirt are not necessarily the most effective ones. There are plenty of great routines that are very effective, but are less likely to leave participants covered in sweat. Now, doesn’t that sound appealing? Check out these three quality sweat-free workouts that are both enjoyable and effective.

Yoga is a fantastic workout that will not only leave participants dry, but calm and relaxed as well. This exercise provides a variety of health benefits that go a long way in improving overall fitness. It boosts the release of endorphins, which are chemicals in the brain that makes people feel great post-exercise. Yoga also reduces oxidative stress, which contributes to reducing signs of aging, as well as inflammation. It strengthens the immune system, increases energy and battles the effects of depression. The breathing and stretches of yoga can help regulate hunger and increase flexibility as well. Join a mid-day yoga class or purchase an inexpensive DVD and yoga mat to practice at home.

Walking is an activity that can be done anywhere, anytime. Unlike yoga, walking does not require the trouble of setting aside an hour of the day to squeeze in some exercise. Have a bunch of errands to run in town? Put on a pair of sneakers and stroll to the store. Full day at work? Park in the farthest end of the parking lot, walk instead of taking the elevator, and walk to a co-worker’s office instead of calling them. Little extra walks throughout the day can really add up over time!

Strength Training is an easy, sweat free way to tone up and stay in shape by boosting metabolism and building muscle. For people who don’t have a gym membership, taking up strength training is not difficult at all. It isn’t necessary to lift 50-lb. weights to get in a good strength training workout. Push-ups, squats, lunges, and abdominal workouts don’t require any weights and can be done at home or on a lunch break. Tricep dips can also be done easily with the use of a chair. The great thing about strength training is that it takes as little as 15 minutes to get in an effective workout, which can leave a bit of time for light cardio walking or yoga.

Now, there is officially no excuse to skip a workout due to a busy schedule. Where there’s a will there’s a way, and there is always a way to exercise, both at home and on the go! Even just a little bit of exercise every day can help contribute to a healthier lifestyle.
