Rejuvenate Your Soul With a Women’s Wellness Weekend

Whether you are 18-years-old and in college or 35 with a full time job, many women are burdened with stress, anxiety or exhaustion, things that often happen when you don’t take care of yourself. In American culture, it is common to work more than 40 hours a week, all the while killing ourselves to stay in shape and be social. We often forget the importance and benefits of a little rest and relaxation, two things necessary to keep us healthy and happy.

In college I found myself buried under mountains of papers, working two jobs and always staying out really late. It wasn’t until I got really sick that I realized that I was exhausted and my body was now suffering the consequences of not taking the time I needed to recharge. A good friend of mine told me about a retreat she went on with her mom. It was called a Women’s Wellness Weekend and she thought it was exactly what I needed.

A Women’s Wellness Weekend is a weekend that consists of a variety of instructional and entertaining classes designed to help women grow in the health of their minds and bodies. These wellness weekends are hosted at different YMCA camps around the country, each offering different classes and ways to re-new your soul. At any given camp, participants can sign up for a wide variety of classes, some of which include Dutch-oven cooking, shotgun basics, salsa dancing, digital photography, high ropes elements, meditation techniques, travel tips for woman, wine tasting tours, and so much more!

“It was a great way to try new things without having to worry about whether or not I had the time, and by the end of the weekend, I had gained so many new hobbies and skills,” says Kristin McMaster. Kristin has participated in many Women’s Wellness Weekends across the country.

There are a number of different camps to choose from in different locations, all of which come with the promise of a rejuvenating weekend. The one below is one of the best that I have heard of and is in one of the most beautiful, serine places around.

YMCA Camp Orkila

Located on beautiful Orcas Island in San Juan County, Washington and encompassing 280 acres of private beach, preserved forest and open fields, Camp Orkila is the perfect setting for outdoor activities and the most colorful sunsets imaginable.

Wellness Activities Include:
Fitness and yoga classes
Jewelry making
Drop-in craft area
Giant swing
Nutrition workshops
Hikes in the forest
Professional massage therapy

Camp Orkila’s Women’s Wellness Weekends are held every year. They are a great way to meet people, learn something about yourself and give yourself the down time that you have been craving.
