GFGL TRAVEL FIT BLOG: Indoor Workouts for Unexpected Weather

A cold spell hit Europe early this month dropping the weather to below zero temperatures (Fahrenheit). The weather left over 200 people dead and many people stranded in airports or even mid-train ride. It has been described as the worst winter since the 1980s.

Though it was not nearly as cold in Spain and the weather was incomparable to Eastern Europe, temperatures were still in the upper-twenties and thirties with snow, wind and rain. Yuck!

Now some people (maybe from the East Coast or Northwest) may not think this is that cold, but it is very cold if you failed to pack appropriate clothing for such low temperatures. One day I will be like this guy.

Luckily, I knew of some great indoor workouts to maintain my physical activity.

Blogilates:

I know I’ve mentioned this website before, but I cannot get enough of it. Blogger and fitness instructor, Cassey Ho, produces YouTube videos that target certain parts of the body.

Her videos are 5-15 minutes long and she is bursting with energy and motivational tips from start to finish.

She also blogs her yummy recipes (healthy, of course), workout printables in case you want to take her workouts to go, workout fashion designs, workout music, and personal stories.

Cassey has created a community out of Blogilates that has reached over 21,000 “popsters” on Facebook.

All of her workout videos are here and her website is here.

Pinterest:

Though I cannot condone staring at skinny bodies for “motivation,” I can say that many of the pins have become more about stronger bodies rather than skinny bodies. In other words, Pinterest has become healthier from when it first debuted.

A current trend is fitness workouts such as this, which display workouts that one could easily do in their dorm room or home. I was skeptical at first because it was missing jogging, a piece that usually completes my workout.

Let me tell you, cardio is included (in most plans). Mountain climbers, squats, lunges, high knees, jump rope -all cardio.

Don’t be afraid to mend the workout to your needs. Those workouts cannot cater to everyone.

Resistance Band Workouts:

For about $10, resistance bands are a cheap full-body workout. Besides strength conditioning, resistance bands also aids to a more flexible body.

The bands allow you to target specific muscle groups or can make a simple squat more challenging. Not to mention they weigh close to nothing, so they are a great travel option.

Just search “Resistance Band Workout” in the YouTube search Engine and hundreds and hundreds will show up. You just have to choose one that will work best for your needs!

Have fun!

I love this article! I have lived on the East Coast all my life, but I have never quite gotten used to the weather! I will definitely check out these videos for the days the weather keeps me from the gym. Thank you!
